Utilizzando la definizione di Sindrome Metabolica secondo l’International Diabetes Federation (IDF), la prevalenza è stimata attorno al 30% negli USA; tuttavia, utilizzando i criteri stabiliti dall’Adult Treatemnt Panel (ATP), la prevalenza è stimata attorno al 22% [1].
A livello nazionale, la prevalenza si aggira intorno al 18% per le donne e al 15% per gli uomini (corrispondenti a 3,6 milioni di donne e 3 milioni di uomini) [2].
Non ci sono studi di prevalenza della Sindrome Metabolica in Puglia; tuttavia, un progetto dell’ASL BAT ha stimato che si aggiri intorno al 25% [3].
